Apple is not the only one that is working on a bezel-less iPhone 8 this year. Samsung’s upcoming flagship — the Galaxy S8, and LG’s already launched G6 also feature an almost bezel-less design.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 leak from earlier today gives us a very clear look at the front of the phone, which is basically dominated by its 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED screen. The top and bottom bezels are barely a few millimetre thick, while the curved OLED screen ensures that the bezels on the side are not visible at all.
The LG G6 also features a similar design language, with its front being dominated by its 5.7-inch Quad HD+ 18:9 aspect ratio display. While the G6 does not feature a curved display, its side bezels are very minimal.
Now, neither the Galaxy S8 or LG G6 quality for a phone that come with a true ‘bezel-less’ design. However, these phones do give us an idea of how the iPhone 8 will look like. Contrary to what rumours and leaks claims, the iPhone 8 will have some bezels surrounding its display — much like the Galaxy S8 and LG G6. This is because a certain amount of bezel is necessary to hold the phone properly, irrespective of how good software palm rejection is.
Considering that Apple is also reported to use a curved OLED display on the iPhone 8, we should see the handset feature a form factor that is similar to that of the Galaxy S8.
